The Oil and Gas Research Center of Persian Gulf University was founded in November 2016 with the aim of directing academic research to innovation, addressing industrial technology needs, providing technological solutions, and creating scientific, technical and consulting infrastructure for the society. The center is currently working with 19 researchers from the faculty of the Persian Gulf University. Also, more than 40 graduate students (doctoral and master's) are working on their dissertations under the guidance and supervision of the center's researchers. Oil and Gas Research Center of Persian Gulf University, using the scientific and industrial experiences of a wide range of academic and industrial experts, is one of the key policy and planning institutions for the development of science and technology related to upstream and downstream oil, gas and petrochemical industries in the university and Bushehr province. In 2021, a number of “research cores” of the Persian Gulf University were upgraded to a "research group" after evaluating the performance by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Technology of the University.
